Hi people, my 1993 RVR Sports Gear 2.0 Td is returning approximately 25mpg. It's also pretty gutless when going up hills. I'm just wondering what the average fuel consumption figures are for one of these things? Does anyone know how to adjust the fuelling on the pump? Pictures would be greatly appreciated!!! Cheers...

I have a 95 petrol model and its just as poor on the gas milage as yours. Granted it is only a 1.8 litre but it is gutless as well. Thought that your diesel version with the turbo would be the one to have. Have you checked your turbo as it should be noticiable on the hills if it is working properly?

The turbo is ok, we've had a boost gauge on it. I'm pretty sure it's a fuel problem. I think there's too much fuel being supplied to the engine. There's loads of black smoke coming from the exhaust on acceleration. i don't know whether the fuel is controlled by an engine management system or there is simply a mixture screw on the pump. info is so hard to find on these imports!

Sorry can't help you with that one as I have petrol model RVR and Pajero GDI. Logic tells me that you would not have an ECU like the petrol models and you could simply wind back the injector pump a bit to solve the rich mixture. I previously had a Jap import Landcruiser and it performed much like you have said when we first got it. I turned the pump back and that was the end of the problem. For some reason the pump was maxed-out.

Another thought is poorly tuned injectors. The best way to solve is to remove and get cleaned and calibrated. Try some injector cleaner to see if it helps and if it does get them done properly. Fuel savings will pay for in no time. Have a look at the website tunemycar.com for info.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi there Greg,
I have just bought a 97 turbo Diesel 2l RVR and did a long trip on the highway in it here in New Zealand.
I got the following from it:]
Total distance: 506 km
Amount of fuel used: 42.44 l diesel
So that gives 8.39l/100km
or
11.92km/l ( I think that's 33.67 miles/gallon)
I am pretty pleased with that. It's also a lot more milage than yours, so I think there may be a problem.
Cheers,
Mark
