I have a 2006 Eclipse GS. I may have a problem with my passenger air bag light. When no one is sitting in the passagener seat, should the words "passenger air bag off", the orange symbol showing person 2 with an X, or both light up? Thank you very much!

yes that is meant to happen to let you know that the passenger airbag will not deploy if you are in an accident as there is no one sitting in the passenger seat

Thanks for the reply. My concern is the words "passenger air bag off" do not light up ever. The symbol next to the words that shows a passenger #2 and X does light up. I am wondering if BOTH should light up. Thanks!

If its like the mazdas there is a wieght sensor in the seat that turns the airbag off when there is less than 60lbs in the seat :57:

The long awaited answer to your question...LOL. Your lights are functioning properly. Wouldnt it be distracting if all of those lights lit up when you had no passenger. I noticed the light sequence when I test drove a GT I didnt buy.

Either yours, mine and the one I test drove have a problem or they are all working properly. :)

I just bought a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and I am wondering the SAME thing!! I totally understand your question, as the passenger side airbag light not coming on is driving me crazy!! (the little man with the x lights up though; just like yours)... I took the car back to the service department at the dealership where I bought the car and they told me that they weren't sure if it was supposed to light up or not -- they checked another GS on the lot and it didn't light up either -- still, I think that it is stupid to have that on the display and not have it light up to ensure that the system is working - why else would it be there? Have you found out anything further as to why it doesn't light up? Maybe it's a defect on all of the Eclipses??

guys there is nothing to worry about, it is for a security reasons, so you wont put kids on the front seats, i also have gs 06, i also have same light on, they are doing this so kids wont be killed by that air bag, because when air bag deploys, it herts a lot, from my previous accedent it nocked me off :) imagine what it would do to a child...

I completely agree with you winfinit . The sensor is activated after the weight of 60 pounds is meet. Some people put car seats on the front passenger seat and sit their kid in it. The light with the X and little man is to sort of to remind you that if your child is not the minimum weight that the danger is to high to place a child on the front seat. It really do make sense it you have kids. I read the manual on that too because my hubbie was wondering the same thing. He also thought it was something wrong with the car. Reading the manual cleared things up. There is Nothing Wrong with the airbag. If an accident was to happen, then you would also not need to worry about fixing back up more airbags than what you needed in the safety part during the accident.
