Hi all,
I am a newbie, not only to this forum, but to forums in general.
So may be a little slow at the start, or maybe even for quite a while!

Am still struggling with what to do and how to do it...........

My better half and I have owned a 1996 RVR for the last 3 yrs and have had a great run from it. At 200kms we are looking at getting a slightly newer model, and have found what we think may be the one.

We are currently looking at purchasing a 1998 RVR with the 2.4 GDI engine. The vehicle has done 75kms. Everthing looks to be fine and it drives well, but I have been told on two occessions in the last day or so, to steer clear of the 2.4 GDI motor, as it is hindered by may problems. Has anyone out there had any problems or know of any things to watch for with this model?
All advice will be greatfully accepted
Cheers,
Philby.

Hi there,

I own a 1998 2.4 GDI RVR. Mine only had 45,000kms on the clock when I bought it - a Japanese import. I have only had it for 4 months.

The only problem I have had is a passenger side window getting stuck and the mirrors folding in on there own. Other that that, I haven't had any problems but I have been told that the gear box on these models can be problematic. Make sure you mechanic uses the GDI spark plugs as the normal ones don't work properly.

If you have any more questions let me know - I'll try and help

cheers

Connan

Although I don't have a GDI in my RVR I have a 3.5l GDI in my 97 Pajero. With all the research I have done they seem to be very good reliiable motors. The biggest complaints is the gas milage, especially under load or around town. On the highway they are brilliant but otherwise forget it. The elctronics can also catch the inexperienced player as they are much more dependent on the ECU, sensors and control than the previous models. You must also run premium fuel or else you will risk getting allot of deposits in the cylinder and blocked injectors which lead to more gas guzzling. Make sure you look at the tailpipe and air cleaner to see how it has been serviced and how it running. Given that they are maintained and looked after they are an excellent choice.
