Hi' there

Is there any of you guys that have real winter experiance with these tires? Real winter is about 3" show and ice on the road. On normal tar road not offroad.

Regard
Bjarne

if these are the stock tires, they will do OK on snowy roads.

but, the geolanders have a tendency of being religous- they get holey at the wrong times.

Ive had 2 flats with stock tires. Im looking for a better set of all season before the winter comes.

i haven't tested the winter performance of these tires since it doesn't snow in the philippines but...

it's slippery as heck in wet weather. the outlander would do a 4wd drift on wet roads on a corner while our pajero with bridgestone desert dueler a/ts would be able to do so without any fuss (and ours isn't a 4x4 variant but an FR one).

dry weather isn't as good either.

we got one tire holed too...some jerk decided to punch though the tire...through the sidewall! argh.

Have done 1 winter so far and they have been great. We live on top a mountain and have a steep climb to the sub-division and a steep drivway to top it off, Min 15 degrees slope. we had freezing rain and snow last winter. one day at least 1/4" ice on driveway, couldn't even walk up it. decided to give it a try in our '05 outlander and it went up without even spinning a tire. that was stock geolander tires and AWD but that was impressive and finally made me feel good about our purchase.

I had 14K on my stock tires and got a flat. Was the best thing that happened with those tires. They hydroplaned through puddles at 25 MPH in my experience. Were it not for the added security of my AWD, I would not chance those tires on anything but a dry road. I put on Daytona's and they are great, no problems so far with 5K on them, and I drove them hard in the rain. But then again they are still new.

The tyre will depend on where they are manufactured as I belive like most factories they use different rubber compounds. I have found that the ones manufactured in Japan have a denser rubber and although get high milage do not grip so well in adverse conditions. I have a stock set of Geolanders on my 97 Pajero and they are OK on the road but not so good off. Snow handling is OK but mud is crap. I use to have a set of BFG's A/T and they were magic for all conditions plus got nearly 100k out of them. If I were you I'd do some research on the different tyes available locally and make you choice from there. You might find that you will get what you pay for. Tyers are everything so it pays do do your homework.

One note -have a look at Cooper Tyres. They are much like the BFG's but a little cheaper and have the greatest tread depth (19mm). I have a set on my work 4WD and they are great. Cheers

Our was manufactured in Japan and my geolanders are great. Have been in mud, snow, rain, gravel roads, washboard roads etc. Parents have a ranch that is 10KM up a gravel road (all up hill, some 8%), have been in winter storm, spring drainage and summer washdoard. lots of grip and great handling. guess I got one of the good sets of tires.

I've read some terrible reviews of this tire at the Tirerack.com - but most were from Subaru Forester owners - I think the Subaru's use a different size 235/75-16's as opposed to the stock 225/60-16's on the Outlander. That may have some effect on the most common complaints...

My experience has been limited with the Geolanders so far, but I'm looking forward to winter - I won't keep'em on that long, just want to check out their performance in the snow. I'll be getting my winters on in about 3-4 weeks (yes I know I wait too long, heck there's snow on the ground now :o but I always do this)

Any suggestions for good winter tires? I'm looking at the Michelin X-ice (but they're expensive here), the Blizzaks, or the Toyo G02s if they have the right sizing...
