I have just purchased a Grand Chariot with the Multi Communication System. It is in Japanese.
My question - how can I change the operating language to English.

[SIZE=1][COLOR=green]

Hi.

I recently purchased A 1998 2 W/D RVR with the same multi comunication system and although ive not found a way to get it working in english yet, you can get a manual for the system in english from www.importcarhandbooks.com which has been very usefull to me!

I'm going to try find out if any english equivalant cars have the same system such as the "pajero" ie shogun, if there is then it should be a matter of sourcing a chip to convert the language and maybe a DVD with map of GB to run the Sat Nav from Mitsubishi UK (hopefully) :haha:

Will post again if i'm successfull, but dont hold your breath :innocent:

Hope this is of some use!

Pete

I have seen quite a few posts regarding the issue of language on the Mmcs and was wondering if the local Mitsubishi agents are of any help in changing the language...

Hi all.

In reply too my earlyer listing.
I visited my local Mitsubishi dealer over in Esher, to be told quote" I duno if you can convert the MMCS unit to english, but its pretty unlikely, no I cant find out if we can do it as I wouldnt know where to start" DUH!

I totally expected that and I only asked them too clear that avenue of investigation, but disapointing none the less :crying:

And to cap it off they wanted £280 for the english maps CD. Yep £280, for one lousey CD disk. You can buy a mobile GPS system ie TomTom that will not only work in the car, but can take with you out an about hiking or whatever for about the same or less on ebay. So I wont be buying the cd from them!
If I find someone else with one, I'll copy thiers... Whoops... Did I just say that, or just think it?!

Oh well Im sure there must be a cheaper legal way of doing this and when or if I find out, I'll post it here!

Laters.

We have the same problem with the Pajero's, etc in NZ. I have been trying to get an answer on converting the MCS from Mitsi Japan but they are unresponsive. Trouble is that they developed these units only for the Jap market with a view to test and release for export if there was a mrket for them. So sorry to say they have moved up in the newer models and technology and it is unlikly that they would produce a CD (and Eprom) for converting the older units to English. I also doubt that any after market map CD would work with the system. I am still doing a bit of research on the subject as a number of import owners, like myself, would like to get. Other than that maybe you could take a few Jap language lessons?

Just a thought...

Why is it that the Mitsubishi agents are so unhelpful and unresponsive to their clients needs. I thought that perhaps I was the only one receiving bad service but reading through numerous posts on this site it is apparent that nearly everyone has had some bad experience from these people. :( :(

Good question as I was starting to wonder this myself. I am a new Mitsi owner and I havn't had to deal with the agents much yet but this brand does not seem to be as well supported as say Toyota or Nissan. They closed the dealership in Alex a few years back but the mechanics have opened their own shop to work on the Mitsi's. I will ask them what the deal is next time I see them.

I have a Toyota work car and had a problem recently with the security codes for the radio. Went down to the Toyota agents and they literally fell over themselves to help, got the thing up and running in 10 minutes and there was no charge, even got a free cup of coffee whilst i waited. Talk about service....wish the Mitsubishi agents were the same..
