There aren't huge differences.

one is a two bolt main girdle, the other is a four bolt. They should both hold a fair amount of power.

the increase in horsepower from the 91-93 and the 94+ came from the fact that mitsubishi upped the boost by a few psi.

I have a second gen, and the first gens had stuff flop around alot, so this should be correct, but I'm not 100% sure.
the first gens have cam and crank sensors, while the second gens have crank sensors and the cam signal gets simulated.

The two versus four bolt swapped some time in the first gen, as did forged versus cast cranks. also not sure when.

If you do the wiring correct the cam/crank sensor should not matter. It is all in how you hook them up. people have done it, but I have not personally and don't want to steer you wrong. the most people who have done it are on 3si.org/forum

4 bolt vs. 2 bolt. nothing you can do. you shouldn't really worry. there is a guy making over 700hp with an NA 2 bolt block. work with whatever you get. there are quite a few people that are turboing the NA block. if that helps any.

keeping 10:1 and all.
