Hi All,

I'd like to install fog lights on my Outlander LS.
I also would like to change the headlights to sodium instead of the standard halogen bulbs. I often drive out into the country and visibility becomes paramount.

I think the factory (& Mitsubishi) supplied foglights are Halogens, and that's not exactly what I have in mind - neither practically, nor esthetically. ;)

I'm also wondering if anyone has any experience with wiring kits/switches for the foglights. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Any tips?

Perhaps you would be looking for driving lights rather than fog lights. As you likely already know, fog lights will cast a beam meant to be low and wide; not all that far in front of the vehicle. Driving lights will far outreach your headlamps as they are meant to project beyond the reach of your headlamps, but with a more narrow beam. I drove from CA to CT (cross-country) in January, so I got very good use out of both sets of lights. Look into some PIAA lights. I have never wanted to spend that much money on them so the $40 driving lights always suited me just fine. I hear that they are worth the money though. The mitsubishi factory fog light kits are pretty easy from what I have heard, easier than an aftermarket purchase, but will cost you about $160. I would go with the a little more work and buy the aftermarket kits- which will come with all necessary hardware. There are some kits that have a remote to turn the fog/driving lights on and off to save you the hassle of running the wires into the cabin for the switch.
Good luck.

I got a deal on the factory fogs and yes they are very simple to install (plug and play)

now, If you wanted to get these and require more power I suggest using the 9005 bulbs instead of the 9006. all you have to do is mod the bulb base just a little.

the 9005s provide a nicer brighter beam (they are after all low beam lights)

QUOTE
Hands down, Sylvania Silverstar 65W 9005's are the best, the brightest, the
longest lasting (I've had mine in for two years now) and the whitest.

Why I'm using a 9005 bulb: 9005 bulbs are 65W and are not capped at the end, 9006 bulbs are 55W and have a cap at the end. The light increase is from the increase in lumens from the 9005 bulb. A 9005 bulb has 70% more lumens than the 9006 (1700 lumens vs 1000 lumens). HID has
3200 lumens. You have to slightly modify the 9005 bulb to fit the 9006 socket.

Supplies
*File or chisel tools, Sharp knife, blade, soldering iron or Dremel like tool.
*2 x 9005 bulbs.
*Protective glasses and gloves (you don't want to lose a finger or an eye). :P

Procedure
1. Remove 3mm of plastic from the left of the center of top tab when the
socket is pointing down until you have 5-6mm of plastic left.

2. Remove the two guides inside the socket. Install 1 new O'ring from the
old 9006 bulb on the new modified 9005 bulb to ensure a tight fit.

3. Install the bulbs in your car and have your light adjusted if not
already.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm not too sure i want to be modifying bulbs - but it seems like a interesting option. Just so I understand clearly, you're suggesting to purchase the mitsu fog lights, and change the bulb for increased performace? I'm in Canada, so they'll run me at least 300$ + the bulb work. I was hoping to find a suitable after market kit that will cost me less.

Is there anyplace on line that I can download the instruction for the mitsu fog light installation? (to be better able to evaluate the compatibilty of the after market kits)

Thanks again!

ok, the factory fogs have a harness and are pre wired, and the outtie has the plugs (if you'd like to see, remove the front grill and you can check them out)

installation is just plug male to female, then add the on off switch (which is basically already pre wired) in the lower left portion of the guage cluster.

Now, Im thinking that the plugs that are found might be able to be spliced to use after markets, but then you have the problem of locating a factory on off switch (mine cost me $45)

other than that you'd have to ask someone with more wiring experience.

(also should note, the instruction manual is 6 pages total. 3 of which where just warnings. the instructions also included diagrams which streched it a bit)

good luck with it
