Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone had some advice as to how I might go about ensuring that I get a good price for the Eclipse, should I decide to take the plunge. I tried using Edmunds, but the best total cost price they reported didn't seem different from the MSRP. Should I be expecting to pay the sticker price?

What kills me is that Mitsubishi is offering all these great deals (free gas for a year, anyone?) but only on the 2005 models! I wonder when they'll have incentives for the 2006 models...

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

- Corey

Here is my suggestion. My business is buying and selling vehicles so I know a little bit about this subject. First thing I would do is forget about purchasing one brand new from a dealer if you want to get the best price. Wait a month or two and start searching on ebay for a used 06 eclipse with around a thousand miles on it. when you find a couple that suit you start comparing the different ebay sellers. You want to eliminate the private sellers and the Big dealerships. Here is the important part. Look for a wholesaler. Trust me. They can be found on ebay and the way that you can find them is by seeing how many cars they sell on each day. Wholesalers will list a whole bunch of cars on one day with no reserve. Instead of trying to make 3-4000 dollars on a car and taking a month to do so, they would rather get rid of ten in one day and only make 500 to a thousand off each car. Also you can sometimes get a better finance rate this way. Instead of working with a dealerships F&I guy (they recieve commission off you) Lower rates can be found by directly contacting the companies that they would be middlemanning for you. Companies such as Capitol One. You can call them for a quote and I bet you it will be better than the dealerships F&I guy rate.

This is how you are going to get the best price. The only way you can get it cheaper is if you have a dealers license. Usually the best states for finding wholesalers and the lowest prices are in Florida or Texas.

I own a 06 the dealer took 900 off here in NYC gt loaded six speed in july. If the warranty is transferable 10 year I would try the used market but in my opinion who would trade in such a new car and take such a hit $ unless it was hit, flooded katrina, or has been trouble. you only live once baby life is short buy it new enjoy. I never saw a armored car at the cemetery.

I have a dealers license to purchase used vehicles from different auction agencies. In order to obtain that license in the state of Florida you need to have proof of a garage or storefront from which you will be selling these cars. You also need to show them a copy of your business license. Business license's are easy to get and usually cost less than a hundred dollars. The hardest part is showing them proof of a garage or car lot. The dealers license itself is only 500 dollars. Ahh and one more thing Insurance. The advantage of the license is the ability to get into dealer only auctions where the prices are dirt cheap and you do not have to pay sales tax. Another cool thing is that even if you purchase a new car from a dealership for your personal use, you don't have to pay sales tax on it. The problem is that it is very hard to find information on how to obtain the license. Its like they keep it a secret to keep the big people in business. I would look around on www.Myflorida.com and look under business licensenses.

No you are wrong. Most of the cars that you see for sale with such low miles on them are being sold due to someone being over their head in payments, not flood damaged, hit, or trouble (Lemons). Those cars no longer have clear titles and would not be purchased by wholesalers.

I know how it works up in the northeast. I had my dealers license for 2 years working out of Livingston NJ. And your right some of that does happen up there. Do you know where all those cars end up? At the so called public auctions that they have in Jersey city and elizabeth. They do not go to wholesalers. Wholesalers do a lot of business selling their vehicles to the major dealerships up there such as Warnock, Grecco, Wigder, Cisulli, and Maxon which is owned by Bob Cisulli.

You can't clear a title by sending the car to another state. A salvage title stays that way. These crooked dealers just depend on people being stupid and not running a Vin check. I am now working out of Boca Raton Florida which is also on the east coast and has worse flooding problems than the northeast.
