2001 Galant w/6A13 SES - P0125, P1500, P300

Hello all,
I am new to this forum but have been a frequent user of the Swedish Mitsubishi Forum which is now defunct. My latest Galant a Station wagon model 2001 w/ a 6A13 engine (V6 - 2.5 Liter) is causing my same problems. Having made service on the engine new timing belt, new P/S+A/C and generator belts, spark plugs, changing oil, coolants. tensioners. The engine came up with some OBC-II errors P0125 and also P1500 and P300.

The P0125 saying that the coolant temperature is to low. A set of new thermostat and temp sensor was installed. It raised the engine temp a couple of degrees ( from 82 degC to 85 degC ).but the error came back.
The P1500 says that there is an error in the generator FR circuit. This error is not frequent but shows up not to frequent. Also the generator lamp flickers sometimes when driving.
The P300 saying that various cylinders misfires. Spark plug holes are cleaned and no oil in the spark plug holes.

I am out of ideas on what to do - please help.

I've had P0301 which is specific to cylinder one, and I found oil leaking past the seal around the spark plug. Apparently I can only get new seals as part of a set of genuine Mitsubishi plugs. But you've checked for oil, and the code is general, not specific.

A general misfire suggests a single point of failure. My second Galant 🙂 had worn distributor cap contacts, *and* part of the rotor arm contact had broken off! Those should be worth checking. That car won't start *at all*, so I'm wondering about the coil. I suppose you might have some deficient insulation at the HT side of the coil, and intermittent misfire always makes me look at HT.

Thanks for posting. I was feeling lonely here.

The P1500 is gone and so is the P300 also. The most persistent P0125 was a bit peculiar. I thought that maybe the lambda sensor was in error but not so much that it would generate a CES code. And checking the voltage it was different to the other side which is new. After changing this sensor too the P0125 went away. The engine is still running a bit uneven at idle despite new ignition plugs but before dismantling the the distributor I will clean the intake system.

Some time after my post here the generator broke down completely and after changing it to a new one all previous errors went away. Instead, I am now having a P0403 error but I dont know were the EGR solenoid is placed on my 6A13 engine. Can't find it.

I had a new EGR solenoid fitted a couple of years ago. Two observations. First, the problem can be a build up of deposits from the exhaust gas, and there is some benefit from occasionally driving around like a mad thing to try and burn some of it off. Second, if the fault is electrical then you just need a new solenoid.

I bought the valve part at the same time so that everything was to hand when it was in pieces, but didn't need it. Maybe I can find it and send a photograph to you.

As for where it is, we'll, someone else fitted it. I expect it is on the exhaust side of the exhaust manifold, and should have a pipe to the inlet manifold I guess.
