if you want to get technical....my sources tell me that the STi does 0-60 5.0secs.Â* and also, we are talking about stock....if the rev limiter is removed, then it is no longer stock.

and just FYI, the 3G gearing top speed is 172mph.Â* so i have no doubt that the 4G would have close to that

The Sources you have, even though they are probably legit, they apparently didn't utilize the AWDs true launching abilities. They must have launched it like it was 2wd car - with ease. If you want the true potential of it's 0-60, you drop that clutch and launch that AWD like a bat out of **** to get a 0-60 of 4.6-5.0 seconds depending on climate, vehicle variability, driver variability, and a biggie, the elevation height where the air can be scarce.
STi spec sources:
Motor Trend - Evo 8 MR vs WRX STi
Cars101 - Subaru wrx and STi info. 0-60's
Yahoo! Auto 0-60
FantasyCars.com StatsMSN Auto 0-60 and other Stats
...I could keep on going. I understand that you have sources claiming 0-60 in 5.0+ seconds and I know why that is. Subaru guys know as well, it's well known to the Subaru community that the STi has a 0-60 hurdle of shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear beause of the ralley-style gearing that subaru gave it. So to get the best results, some testers actually exceed the redline and hit the fuel cut at 7200rpm to get the good times. Yeah it may be bad, but it works.

You're contradicting yourself, can you see?
If I remove the electronic limit (via speed sensor -> ecu-> fuel cut) of 155mph then it's no longer stock. That is true. Sure the GEARING allows the 3g Eclipse GT to get to 165mph with the 5spd and 172mph with the automatic but do you really think that's going to happen in this instance? I try not to compare apples to oranges (gear ability vs power limitation). If we talk about gearing, look at the ls1 F-bodies with the T56's...The Gearing will theoretically allow a top speed of around 289.5mph. That's funny.
The 2006 Eclipse is also limited electronically so the theoretical top speed from gearing is useless until you get the limiter removed. Removing the limiter = modified car.
For shits and giggles, let's see the theoretical top speed of the 4g Eclipse gt 6spd.
With the secondary (5th and 6th Final) final gear of 3.24:1, add on the wheel diameter, add the 6th gear ratio of 0.79:1 and you would get a theoretical top speed of 199mph at 6500rpm (redline). But we all know these theoretical top speeds are pretty much useless and just for fun.
