|Bruce Walker||Yes, engine flushing oil is still available and used - in NZ anyway. I read somewhere that Kerosene (Paraffin in some places) can be used for flushing as is an 'oily' solvent. But like proper flushing oil, it is just for a very short load-free burst of cleaning. No longer than a minute I would guess, and at low revs. As traces will inevitably remain, the next oil change should be sooner rather than later too. And only if serious gumming up is suspected. Otherwise, a couple of sooner-than-usual changes of a high-detergent oil may do the job. Good luck!|

|Bruce Walker||If I was experiencing this problem, I would flush the engine oil and make sure future changes were on time. Hydraulic lifters can gum-up and become sticky if the oil is dirty or the wrong grade, or if the car gets too many short runs. Just my 2-cents worth...|

|Ian61||I get ticking from my engine. About four ticks a second at about 500 rpm, so that's every other revolution, so I think it's a self adjusting tappet with an oil blockage. My mechanic doesn't think it's anything to worry about either.|

My 2013 2.4L does that too.
I'm not worried. I'm sure the dealer won't do anything.

As of late my engine makes loud ticking noises and at low speeds sounds more of thumper when cold. I took it at the dealer and they said everything is fine but I am worried since I got 88k and when out of warranty would cost me an arm and a leg. Is this normal?
