Just two days ago the gear selector of my 5 speed automatic transmission started feeling stiff.
As usual when something is not as normal, I got quite anxious. Is there something terribly wrong with my gearbox. I soon realized that it got looser as soon as everything was warmed up a little.

Fact is, the weather has been very moist/wet, with temperatures swinging above and below freezing. I suspect this might be the cause of the problem.

I raised the car up and got underneath it. As far as I can see, there is a rubber boot from where the lever goes through the tunnel and into the gearbox. I put a heater fan under the car to see if I can get it to loosen up a bit.

Then I got home (leaving the car in the workshop), googled a bit and read about selector lever cables. I cannot remember I saw a cable while inspecting the car, but maybe there is one there.

Is there really a cable on the 5 speed auto model? If so, where is it connected on the gearbox end? A drawing would be great!
