I own a 1997 Eclipse Gs automatic. My transmission was leaking really badly. When I took it to the mechanic I had some loose couplings and my transaxle had some vertical play in it and that it was seeping trans fluid. I was also told that this could not be repaired as it is an internal part that needed to be fixed, and that the trans would need to be replaced and there is nothing I can do to even help prolong the life of the trans. After taking my car home I have yet to have it leak even a drop of trans fluid. So my question would be is this something I should really worry about or will my car last for awhile like this? I know it will break eventually I just need to know soon or not.

get a second opinion ............explanation and reasoning from mechanic too vague

worn CV joints , axle seals, pan gasket can be replaced
check over the four engine mounts for cracks or broken rubber
