Endeavor Rear Hatch

My endeavor key will open the driver door on first try and all four doors on the second try at unlocking, but will not open the rear hatch or rear window. If I unplug the connector at the upper rear hatch and plug back in it will unlock the hatch or hatch window. Need help in fixing the hatch to open with key in drivers door.

My stopped working as well. I think it might be a blown fuse as the hatch opens by electronic release.

Anyone have any idea why it would just stop working?
you both probably have a failed WINDOW handle switch.
first, you can manually open the hatch using the small "trap door" inside the car on the hatch (the lovely owners manual should tell you this).

but try unplugging the glass handle. Ill bet that the main hatch handle starts working fine.
Man you rock!!!. That worked, but now my question is, what if I ever want to open the glass again?

FYI
- To do this, first release the hatch manually by removing the access cover located in the middle of the hatch.

- Then locate the windshield washer motor cover in the center of the hatch. Directly opposite the glass release handle on the inside plastic panel of the hatch.

- There should be two screws on either side, remove them

- Then carefully pry the small plastic cover off. This should give you enough room to insert a small needle nose plyers

- There will be two white plastic plugs on the right hand side, you want the smaller of the two.

- Take your needle nose and carefully seperate the male end of the plug from the female end. ( the male end was theleft side of the plug for me. )

And that is it, you can test the main hatch release by lifting the handle and you should hear the electronic release working.

Thanks again to manybrews!!!

buy a new handle. I figured that would be self explanatory.

Really :p

No seriouslly how would I open the glass to replace the handle. The glass will not open at all and I do not see a manual realease like there is for the main hatch. Any suggestions?

the manual release that you used to open the hatch (inside the car) also has a release for the glass.
I have the same problem with a 2007. The rear window on the 2007 does not open independently. But the rear hatch won't unlock with the locks or the fob.

any suggestions?
The rear hatch and rear glass switch problem is well known on the 2004 Endeavor. The switch fails and the glass will not open or pops open. The problem starts with the rear glass popping open. A trick that worked for me was to press the lock button on the remote and then close the glass. The glass would then stay closed. Ultimately the switch fails and must be replaced. The problem is when the switch fails neither the glass nor the hatch will open. Luckily there is an emergency open release. Remove the small panel in the inside bottom center of the hatch door. You will have to crawl over the back seat to access it. Remove the cover, no tools are required. There are two levers inside. The larger front lever will open in the hatch if you turn it upward. The lever attached to the cable will open the glass if you pull the lever and cable downward.

Once the glass is open you can remove plastic cover over the rear wiper area by removing the two screws and the press fitting from the inside. If you remove the electrical connector that connects to the glass open lever on the outside the hatch lever will begin working again. Buy a new glass open handle, remove the two nuts from the inside that hold it to the glass. Press the bolts from the inside to break the rubber seal against the glass. Replace the switch and the cover and you are back in business.

Ok, I tried this. I opened the glass door like was explained, took the plastiv cover off of the hatch assembly and I see two electrical connectors, one is a small white plug, the other is a larger black one. tried working the lower handle with either one disconnected and still no luck. Is this the right set of connectors? Or am I missing something. I could honestly care less if the glass ever raises, I just miss the back hatch opening...
I'm having a related problem but not entirely the same. I just bought a 2006 Endeavor and the back hatch doesn't always open however, the glass always seems to open. Sometimes the hatch will open and other times no matter how many times I unlock it and pull on the handle the lock doesn't disengage. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

Also I haven't been able to find a Chilton Manual for this car... any recommendations there would be appreciated.

I tried this on my 05 and it did't work. By unplugging the glass switch all it did was cause the glass to stop opening, the lift gate still didn't open. I'm guessing the problem is the actuator or relay on the gate latch. Not really a major issue, but when I'm toting a 30 pack, it is a pain in the ass to lift it over the gate or open the glass, reach in and pull the manual trigger. Any ideas? I don't really want to pay the local rapists at the Mitsu dealer to replace a part I can easily replace myself.

I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor LX and I had the same thing with my back door and Window. So I replaced the door latch and it was working great for 3 times and then everthing locks up.. so I started looking at the glass lock and the plastic outside by the window was breaking apart.. so I installed a new glass lock. I still am not able to unlock the glass and or the door. Is there a fuse somewhere that I need to take a look at?
Hi,
I have 2004 Endevour with similar, but more complicated issue!!

There must be a relation to the rear wiper motor. When I disconnect the motor - I am able to open the main gait but not the window. If I connect the rear wiper motor I can't open either!?

Any suggestion? Where can I find the wiring diagram - anyone has it and willing to share it?

Thanks
