Hi folks, I worked and programmed hundreds of cars as a locksmith. I cannot find any info after searching forums and calling other locksmiths and dealers. Now that I own a 2012 Lancer SE the question is even more frustrating.
I have two fresh cut transponder keys and everything works wonderfully. Except my first trip to the local market. There is no truck lock... I got keys without the built-in fob head. I search around and find out I am not wasting $120 for one key after buying two at that price.
Has anyone tried to program a normal box style Fob to the keyless entry? I figure as long as the fcc transmitter chip is the same type it should be possible.

I always end up with after market units, a viper unit for example is installed on my Outlander. The factory ones never are great with any manufacturer.

I might have to go another route then. Thanks for the reply.
It's too late to post a reply here but i really want to know which route you have chosen for the new key. Have you tried any auto locksmith expert or visited the dealership for the new fob. If i were at your place i would go for 24 hr locksmith near me as they will provide me the fob at half the price offered by the dealer.
