Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum.

My magna is not starting but cranking. The engine stopped while stopped for traffic lights. Checked the fuses which are good. The Alternator relay is becoming hot when cranking. No spark. The spark plugs are wet with fuel, so I think no problem with the fuel delivery. The battery was found discharged after cranking the engine several times. Battery is being charged with a charger now.

I am going to check the IGN coil tomorrow. Before that I want to know whether Magna has crank sensors and cam sensors. Are there sensors inside the DIST?

Can it be the alternator problem?

Please help.

Car started once today but is not starting now. Checked the IGN coil. The resistance in primary is 2.1 ohms. In the secondary it's 20M ohms while the manual says 9-13K ohms. If the coil is defective I don't understand how the car started today.
I measured between No. 1 pin and High Tension terminal ( please see image)
Is the condenser inside the DIST?

Another Magna owner recently reported a "no spark" condition.

He cured it with a replacement new distributor.

It is easier than pulling the distributor apart and renewing the sensor that is inside.

Thanks for the reply from Leadfoot. I replaced the distributor with a second hand one from the wrecker. Still no luck. I doubt whether the replaced one is also malfunctioning.

There is a power transistor M67580 inside the distributor. The replaced one reads same as the old one. The car manual diagram says it's a NPN. The data sheet says it's a MOSFET. Another forum says it's an IGBT. I assumed it as NPN and my readings of voltage drops are as following. DMM is set to diode.

+B -E .549v
+B -C .556v
-B +E .534v
-B +C Infinitive
+C -E Infinitive
-C +E .508v

Anybody got suggestions?

The ignition coil is giving the correct resistances. Primary 1.2 Ohms and secondary 10 K Ohms. Earlier I was wrong to measure this. The new Distributor is around $450. I want to find out whether the replaced Distributor is faulty or not faulty.

As my diagnostic scanner is not connecting, I jumped the two pins of the port and found no codes.
The image of the ignition module which sits inside the distributor is given below.

This listing for a new distributor is $245:
