Outlander Balance Shaft Failure

Has anyone else suffered a Balance Shaft Failure?

Mitsubishi tells me there are no replacement parts in the UK, and it will take eight weeks to arrive by sea, presumably from Japan. They say it is not carried in the UK due to the lack of storage space!!!!!!!

How many other people are waiting like this?

The engine is a 2.2DI-d diesel.

Uncommon parts are not typically warehoused locally, I have inquired about parts like throttle bodies in the past for TB swaps and was told 3-4 weeks from Japan to Canada.
Thank you it looks like the same time periods to here in the UK.
Hi,
Mine has just gone on my Outlander and i'm waiting for Exeter Mitsubishi to look at it - what did it cost you to repair?
Thanks

Since this is a past from February, you've obviously found what you were looking for by now. I went to my favorite Mitsubishi Parts site and searched for balance shafts and found over 1000 results. I'm in California and don't know if they ship to the UK or not. I'd imagine they do.

Hi mine has just failed also, parts for a component which should last the life of the car seem to be eye wateringly expensive, and then not guaranteed

is this a known fault ?

also in Devon.

Hi this is common failure. Mitsubishi should re called all the cars with 4n 14 to fix this even after 5 years warranty because is just braking around 60 000 mile
It’s Shocking, I won’t be getting another Mitsubishi “it’s out of warranty all repairs are chargeable” is the stock response, we offer a kit, for a part we don’t expect to fail, really!!! , the parts were clearly substandard at the time of production should have gone with a cam belt, at least you expect them to last 70k.

the measure or an organisation is not its faults, no one can see into the future, but how it deals with them.

don’t buy Mitsubishi

£2500+VAT for the parts and 15 hours labour, so you’re looking at a £5k repair.
Mitsubishi should make recall for all cars with 4n14 engine like others car and bike company doing

Can you tell me what year your car is please as I have just had the same go on my car and it a 61 plate
If you have been quoted 15 hours, then that in itself is bad. Warranty time is 7 hours.
Is this a known fault with these engines ??

Hi ours is a 63 plate, I’m not sure what the production run for this engine was,and whether it spanned face-lifts.
Cheers

Mitsubishi say no (or at least haven’t recalled), but they do produce a kit for £2500+VAT and provide no guarantee unless you buy and fit the whole kit.
The point is moot, because the gears have been fragmenting I’ve elected to go for a reconditioned engine of the newer generation, rather than discover the hard way what other damage has been caused/might be intrinsically weak in this engine.

The dealer i work for have done 6 in five years, and we work on average 40 cars per day... is that a lot?

Thanks Dave for letting me know I have just had mine fixed and I managed to haggle on the price but if this is a manufacture fault I just hope I can get all my money back but I will keep looking into this issue as it seems that the newer cars are the ones with the problems
