Alternator output low intermittently

Howdy. 2007 V6. Dead battery, screeching alternator, "Charging system service" indicator on. TopDon tester says battery good, alternator no output. Replace alternator: Charging system light out, 12.52v at battery at idle. 13.4v for a while with headlights on but drops back to 12.52.
Battery voltage at 2500-3000rpm fluctuates 12.8-13.2
TopDon tester still says "no output" after charging test, never had a good charging test but car seems happy, battery never drops below 12.5 with light on and idling for a long period.
So, could a faulty battery cause odd/intermittent low output on alternator? (I would think so)
Do I just have a defective Remy alternator?
Ignore the TopDon tester and move on with life?

Guess I could remove output feed from alternator post and check output alone, battery should keep car running a while.

Thanks!

Check for voltage between alternator output and Battery POSITIVE terminal. Should be less than 0.5v. If it is higher then you have a wiring problem.

Its better to do that than run the alternator with no output wire attached. im not sure what readings to expect if you do that
