Ambient Temp Sensor

This sensor does not send a good reading to the interior car display when the air outside is hot - above 80F. It will state the temp outside is lower and not change at all when you dirive but at lower temps it reads more normally.. Does this sensor feed any information to the emissions system or computer or is it jusrt for the AC system display? The reason is my car has a somewhat rough idle on hot days and as of late it appears it only will idle rough when this sensor is reading incorrest outside temps.

Could this be the long awaited culprit to these intermittent rough idle problems in hot weather as this car has had this rough idle for years ? The serv manual has it in the Heating and cooling section so before I tried to but a new sensor I thought I would pose the question..

Thanks

the ambient temp sensor has nothing what so ever to do with engine controls.....

and it think about it...its mounted in the front grill area...so its sitting there getting all nice and hot (or cold depending on the season) then u start driving...causing air flow over the sensor..which will then magically change temperature...

the only temp sensor that the engine uses is the intake air temp sensor and the coolant temp sensor
