I was driving my 2014 Outlander a couple of days ago and the engine just lost all power. I brought it to the mechanic and he stated it was a problem with my valve train and it should not be having these type of issues so soon. His recommendation was to rebuild the engine. I then contacted a Mitsubishi service center and they said it was my lack of maintenance and the engine would have to be replaced. I change my oil every 10k. I have 115k on my car so it's out of warranty. Any suggestions? Is there a customer line that I can call to get an exception on the warranty?

engine failure
I have been researching which SUV to purchase and have found that many of them are having the same problem of engine failure. Seems to be related to Variable Valve Timing and/or Variable Cylinder Displacement technologies. GM (equinox and others), Ford, Kia, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai have all had class action suits, some which have settled by agreeing to replace the engines and extending warranty to 10 yrs or 120,000 miles.
Some engines fail without any warning and some engines start burning oil excessively, a quart every 1000 miles. The manufacturers are saying this is normal. My 1998 Durango with 170K miles on it only burns a quart every 5000 miles.
Yours is the first Mitsubishi I've found with this problem but that is probably due to a much less market share.

I had the same problem with my 2013 model. at 6year old and106.000km the engine broke. had to repace the engine. No warranty 
now they say the evaporator AND aircon compressor is broken
